Manual Translations

Spreadly automatically translates your digital business card when a contact switches the language. However, some fields — like job titles and departments — are not translated automatically at all. For other fields, the automatic translation may not always be accurate or match your preferred wording.

Manual translations solve both problems: they let you provide the exact translation for fields that aren't covered automatically, and they let you correct or improve any automatic translation you're not happy with.

When to use manual translations

Use manual translations when:

• A job title or department needs to appear in another language (these are never translated automatically)
• An automatic translation is inaccurate or unprofessional — for example, a street name is misspelled in the translated version of an address
• You want to ensure a specific term is always shown in a consistent, controlled way across all languages

How to add a manual translation

1. Go to https://spreadly.app/app/team/translations
2. Click "+ Add translation"
3. In the Original Language column, enter the text exactly as it appears on the card in the source language
4. In the target language column, enter the correct wording you want to show
5. Save.

From now on, Spreadly uses your manually entered text instead of (or in place of) any automatic translation for that term.

Good to know

• Job titles and departments require manual translations. These fields are not translated automatically, so you need to add a translation pair for each language you want to support.
• It works field by field. Add a translation pair for each piece of text you want to control. The left column is the source text; each language column is the exact wording shown for that language.
• Match the source text exactly. The entry in the original language must match what's on the card precisely — including punctuation and spacing — so Spreadly knows which text to replace.
• It applies team-wide. Translations set here are reused across all cards, so you only have to define a term once.
• Automatic translation stays on for everything else. You only override the specific terms you've added — all other content keeps translating automatically.
